5 – EchoFab Fablab Artist In Residence Day Five…Everything Is 3D!…
Today was a day to make everything into 3d. Paper, 3d prints. Bring the tentative drawings into the reality of real life sculptural forms. When we represent things in 3d using computer generated imagery and even drawing, we are just using a shadow of the final idea if that ideas is to be a real life sculptural form. When we start making sculptural forms in real life, constructing, moulding, placing, arranging, ideas start to grow and evolve in new unexpected ways. Almost as if the creator is navigating to new worlds!
The following images show some of the things I discovered today…
The general process for today is as follows…
1. Constructions and connection experimentation with wooden stirrers
2. Placement and compositional development of wooden stirrers and the use of crumpled paper below to raise the shapes above a flat 2d plane
3. Investigation with a pen sketch underneath the static wooden stirrer shapes, monolithic and fluid
4. 3d print of people from the 3ds Max Populate tool, the print did not turn out exactly right but as you can see the artefacts and mistakes can make interesting unexpected results too
5. Failed attempt at printing my 3d ant I will go into this and try to solve this issues on day 6
6. End of day base layer sketch
